Notes and recommendations
Notes and recommendations
-Wash by hand with water removing all clay or mud, towel dry and leave to air dry.
-Do not leave your tools submerged in water or soaked.
-When using the tool on the lathe, you can submerge it in the water in the basin to clean it but then leave it out, do not leave it floating.
-Do not use chemicals or abrasives.
-Apply mineral oil and beeswax ointment or other special wood oil occasionally.
-For occasional maintenance you can use very fine sandpaper 320+ and ointments or special natural oils for wood, let the product dry 24h before use.
-If at any time you notice that the wood is rougher than you like after the first use or at later times, you can gently sand the surface with fine sandpaper 320+ and reapply protection for a smoother finish to the touch. This aspect does not affect the proper functioning of the tool.
-The final product may have slight variations in color and wood grain due to the use of a natural raw material.
Taller walls and smoother surfaces: meet the C-XL1. When you are pushing the limits of your clay, you need a tool that offers both stability and reach. I designed the C-XL1 as a large professional tool, specifically made to act as a firm support for tall cylinders and big pots. Its long shape provides a large contact area, allowing you to press the wall and fix the shape in a single, steady move, avoiding the wobbles that smaller tools can cause.
Hand-crafted in my workshop from strong wood, the C-XL1 is built to be the heart of your large-scale work. The finger hole is placed to give you a central point of control, ensuring that even under heavy pressure, your hand stays relaxed. Hand-sanded for a professional finish, this tool moves over the clay to leave a clean and firm surface that is ready for the kiln.
Why is the C-XL1 so useful?
Long shaping edge A long edge with a gentle curve designed to stabilize and fix tall clay walls with total control.
Strong compression It provides the size needed to press the clay deeply, making your large shapes stronger and more consistent.
Balanced comfortable grip Includes a center finger hole for a secure, non-slip hold during long work sessions.
Ready for the studio Made from select wood that works well with water, hand-finished to ensure a smooth move without dragging on the clay.
Simple for tall pieces It makes throwing tall pots much easier and more stable, helping you reach new heights in your work.
