Notes and recommendations

-Wash by hand with water removing all clay or mud, towel dry and leave to air dry.
-Do not leave your tools submerged in water or soaked.
-When using the tool on the lathe, you can submerge it in the water in the basin to clean it but then leave it out, do not leave it floating.
-Do not use chemicals or abrasives.
-Apply mineral oil and beeswax ointment or other special wood oil occasionally.
-For occasional maintenance you can use very fine sandpaper 320+ and ointments or special natural oils for wood, let the product dry 24h before use.
-If at any time you notice that the wood is rougher than you like after the first use or at later times, you can gently sand the surface with fine sandpaper 320+ and reapply protection for a smoother finish to the touch. This aspect does not affect the proper functioning of the tool.
-The final product may have slight variations in color and wood grain due to the use of a natural raw material.

Command your large-scale forms with ease. Meet the C-XL9.

When you move from standard vessels to large-scale platters and statement bowls, your tools need to scale with your ambition. I designed the C-XL9 as a specialized "Crescent" rib, featuring a generous, sweeping radius that allows you to maintain a perfectly consistent profile across wide surfaces. Its distinctive half-moon shape is engineered to provide a continuous curve, eliminating the "faceted" look that smaller ribs can leave on expansive clay walls.

Hand-crafted in my workshop from premium dark timber, the C-XL9 feels substantial and steady in the hand. The dual-hole grip system is strategically placed to give you maximum leverage and comfort, allowing you to apply even pressure whether you are opening up a large platter or refining the interior curve of a deep basin. This is more than just a rib; it is a stability tool that helps you master the physics of heavy clay.

Why the C-XL9 is the giant of your studio:

  • Sweeping Crescent Geometry: A large-scale organic curve designed to profile wide bowls and flatware with a single, smooth motion.
  • Dual-Hole Grip System: Features two integrated finger holes for a secure, multi-position grip that reduces hand fatigue on large projects.
  • Artisan Surface Contact: I personally hand-sand the edges to a perfect bevel, ensuring the rib glides over the clay to compress and refine without dragging.
  • High-Density Studio Wood: Crafted from durable, water-resistant timber that maintains its precise crescent profile even under the pressure of production throwing.

Warning: Using the C-XL9 might tempt you to throw bigger than your kiln can handle. Proceed with large-scale caution!
