Maintenance Recommendations
Wash by hand with water removing all clay or mud, dry with a towel and let air dry.
Do not leave your tools submerged in water or soaked.
When you use the tool on the lathe, you can submerge it in the basin water to clean it but then leave it outside, do not leave it floating.
Do not use chemicals or abrasives.
Do not leave your very wet tools to dry lying on the table or on the plasterboard; it is important to dry them after washing them with the cloth and leave them hanging from the hole or standing upright on their base, but always let air circulate around them so that the wood can expel any remaining water naturally.
Apply mineral oil and beeswax ointment or some other special wood oil occasionally.
For occasional maintenance you can use very fine 240 sandpaper and special natural ointments or oils for wood, allowing the product to dry 24 hours before use.
If at any time you notice that the wood is rougher than you like after the first use or at later times, you can gently sand the surface with fine 240 sandpaper and reapply protection for a smoother finish to the touch. This aspect does not affect the correct operation of the tool.
The final product may have slight variations in color and wood grain due to the use of a natural raw material.
SAFETY WARNING
Handle with care: Some tools have pointed ends. While they are not sharpened, they can cause skin injury if used or handled improperly.
Professional use: Keep out of reach of children. Use only for pottery purposes.
Technical reach where other tools fall short: meet the D-L5.
The D-L5 is a high-performance detailer designed for the technical challenges of internal shaping and surface work. I made this Herramienta with a long, thin shape that makes it the perfect instrument for reaching inside deep pots, where standard tools are too bulky to move. Its narrow shape allows you to reach the bottom of tall vases or deep bowls to press joints and fix the inside floor with total precision.
Beyond its reach, the D-L5 is a master of surface management. It acts as a professional scraper, ideal for removing extra wet clay, leveling uneven walls, or creating a clean surface before adding decorations. The lower edge features a series of rhythmic waves, giving you the ability to carve subtle, natural textures and grooves into the clay as it spins on the wheel.
Hand-crafted in my workshop from premium wood, it features a center hole that provides a secure point to hold. This allows you to keep steady pressure even when working deep inside a piece, ensuring your details and textures remain perfectly even.
Why is the D-L5 so useful?
Deep internal access Its thin design is specifically made to reach the inside walls and bases of deep, narrow pots.
Precision scraper Ideal for fixing surfaces, removing unwanted marks, and leveling the clay with professional control.
Edge and rim detailing Perfect for cleaning up lips and small details where a standard tool is too large.
Rhythmic wave base Built-in wave shape for creating steady, tactile textures and decorative lines.
Artisan wood build Made from strong wood, hand-sanded to a very smooth finish to prevent dragging or marking the clay.
Simple and versatile From deep internal cleaning to bold surface textures, it is a tool you will find yourself using on almost every piece you make.
